2014 Color of the Year: All Things Radiant Orchid

Welcome to 2014!  The year of the horse.  It is a year of all things energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and able.  No wonder the color of the year had to be so radiant.  Let me introduce you to your 2014 “tour” guide: Orchid Pantone.  Super daring and powerful, it screams confidence and urbanity.  It’s a happy, welcoming color that invites uncertainty everywhere it goes.  I welcome it with open arms and a big smile.

COY2014

It’s no secret that since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute™ has been designating a Color of the Year to express in color (naturally) what is taking place globally.  If this year’s color represents exactly that, than we ought to be a one very happy bunch!  And believe me, no complaints here.  The Pantone Color of the Year represents a reflection of what people are looking for and what they feel.  When I think of a particular color, I think of a mood and an attitude it creates for me.  Even though I primarily stick to black, white and grey, I always try to spice up my look with a bold and bright lipstick, scarf or a pair of super colorful boots or pumps, depending on the season.

In order to come up with the color of the year, experts must comb through the world and look for future design and color influences, watching out for that one color that pops up. Influences often come from the entertainment industry, films, art, emerging artists, travel destinations and socio-economic conditions. These inspirations may also stem from technology, lifestyles + playstyles, new textures and effects that impact color.  Keep in mind that even certain sports events that are bound to capture worldwide attention also get to play this color game.  In the last few years, we have seen just how much our world is driven by technology ans social media.  In fact, social media holds the key to any and all questions we may today.  You are reading this article, aren’t ya 😉
With each unique color shade having its own special symbolism, an additional key consideration is the emotional component and the inherent meaning of the color. Turquoise may remind you of the beautiful Caribbean sea, your last beach vacation or a summer fling.  Same goes with other colors that simply connect you with the people, time and space while creating a memory that never fades away and remains instilled in your brain.
This year’s color is certainly captivating, magical and enchanting.  Welcoming innovation, this modern and versatile Radiant Orchid encourages creativity and originality. With harmonious shades of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and its rosy undertones emanate great joy, love and health.  Not only is it a versatile color, it goes well with everyone: women, men, kids and pets.  It can be paired with a lot of other colors in unique ways that open the new doors and create new opportunities.
